Motorola Cps Programming Software Questionnaire

Contrary to what people would have you believe.Motorola is still a business. If you are willing to pay a couple hundred bucks for software, they WILL sell it to you. Their biggest sticking point is making sure you understand that once you buy that software it is yours and yours alone, not to be shared. Motorola WILL sue you if they catch you giving the software to anyone, as well as go after the recipient.

In addition, Motorola staff are extremely pleasant and helpful.at least the ones I've dealt with! Technically, software is LICENSED, not SOLD. Motorola still OWNS the software and all rights to it at all times. When they 'sell' the software to you, it's really a license fee that you're paying, however Motorola technically still OWNS the software. It's all in the fine print in the license agreement. It's essentially the same as 'buying' other software for your PC, such as Microsoft Office, etc. When I first applied for approval to 'purchase' software to program my Moto HT1250 portables several years ago, I had to do it using the old paper form, before it became available online.

The form I filled out was exactly the same as the online version. I had no trouble getting set up on MOL and approved for the software. Moto's tech support staff were friendly and pleasant to deal with. Their search engine SUCKS big time. Typically, you'll have to search using key words like 'software' and 'Astro'. If you have a part number, it works great, but nomenclature alone leaves a lot to be desired. It would be very nice if you could find software by 'browsing' under each radio.

It makes sense to me, but I guess Motorola thinks otherwise. What I always find amusing is the pricing. I had a government account and had awesome prices on just about everything. Now I just have an end-user account and it's not so great. My software prices are about the same as they used to be, but parts are a different story. I bet my price for CPS is different than yours. I swear they have a monkey that decides what price everyone should pay.lol If you're set up as an authorized re-seller or an authorized 2-way dealer, you get 40% off of list on all radios, and 45-47% off on most accessories.

I know because my company which does a lot of radio business but is not really affiliated with MOT in any other way gets the discounts. Which gives us a ton of leverage when we are bidding jobs and pitching Motorola equipment. 40-47 points is a lot of play room when working on proposals. You guys that are signing up for your own accounts and paying full price are paying way too much! Most MSS shops in your area will order parts and maybe even software if you know the right people, and the MSS generally marks stuff up 25% from their price (which is 40% off of list) Did that make sense? Dear all, I am a HAM user. I already use Motorola radio's for a few years, and always asked someone else to program them for me.

Now I would like to program myself and want to apply for a MOL account. In the above posts I read you have to fill in a list about 'why' you want to use theirs software and that they can accept or refuse. Does anybody knows the today-rules about HAM users? Are they accepted if they write 'HAM' end user?

Then I have a second question. Can you also buy firmware upgrades for the Motorola radio's? Like for Mototrbo's. Or are they included in the CPS licence? OK, they refused me:-S After so many telephone calls to even more motorola numbers (EMEA, Europe) they told me that I could not get access to MOL because I'm an end user. I was very suprised to notice that they really don't care about end-users. Not one e-mail has been answered.

Only after I called for a few hours, they send me a brief e-mail saying that I could not get access. Oh, and everything went trough a middle man, I never got to spoke someone from MOL. They also told me that the MOL service even refused to speak to me because I was an end-user. They are 'surprised' why some people try to get CPS illegaly???? Anyways, luckely I found a nice dealer who was 'willing' to let me buy CPS trough him with a 3years update service included.

The top 3 answers of most dealers I found: 1) NO ANSWER 2) we CAN not sell CPS 3) we are NOT ALLOWED to sell CPS very strange Am I the only one? When I was stationed in Spain, I had a heck of a time trying to gain access to MOL even though I'm an American. I'm telling you from experience that you'll end up pulling your hair out if you are not in Canada or the U.S. And trying to gain access to MOL. Like you said, they play the 'blame-game' on the end-user and refuse to work with you.

I eventually had to buy the CPS from a vendor in Spain and received hard-copy updates when they'd come out. Once I got back to the States, I was given access to MOL. Buying CPS while in the States was SOOOO much easier. Dear all, I am a HAM user. I already use Motorola radio's for a few years, and always asked someone else to program them for me. Or are they included in the CPS licence? Thanks I have a Problem to Programm my XPR6550! My new European CPS-Soft (AH) does not read and programm the Radio (AA). I want to use it for HAM operation.but. What can i do? Best wishes Peter. Just apply online for MOL first.Wait 24hrs -Answer the E-mail questionnaire -Wait another 24 to 48 hours -Sign in to MOL and look for the software license agreement.

Motorola

Sign it -If approved, find your software on the MOL site and request to buy it. If allowed, pay the $300 for it and wait 5 business days for a CD-ROM.If you can't wait any longer, request it to be placed on MOL for download.Download Sounds like a lot of trouble. I understand why they do it but not sure WHY they STILL do business this way. They can;t be making money on CPS or other programming software, not good money anyway.

So there is got to be another reason. This is truly a shame because the hardware is SUPERB!!! I just wish the programming does not require a Ph.D. To accomplish:smile.
